Gig Review - Sutton Xmas Lights & Karbon Kinks Gig

A real double bill this week in terms of gigs. It was really good to be asked to be involved in this year's xmas lights turn-on in Sutton, Surrey. Those who were there will know that we got a real soaking though - the rain came down all night. Oh well, never mind, we had a good time and so did our good friend Andrew McCulloch who is currently depping on rhythm guitar at the moment for us. Andrew is an awesome guy and we had a great time on stage with him. It's nice to be a 4 piece again! Those who are lo0oking forward to our next Sutton gig it is in just a couple of weeks time.

The Xmas gig was on the Thursday. The very next day (that's Friday as far as I remember...) and it was off to Gillingham and The Beacon Court Tavern. The BCT is perhaps the last big venue that we've yet to play at (apart from the Command House which we're booked in to play later next year) so it was good to eventually do the gig. Unfortunately it was a little ruined again by the rubbish weather and the NIGHTMARE traffic on the A2 and M25. Oh well, these things happen...as it happened we had a great gig and the Karbon Kinks we pretty good as well. THe lead singer looked pretty much like Ray Davies' doppel ganger - check 'em out some time.

Will leave you with the news that Run & Hide (our second album) will be available to buy NEXT WEEK!!!

Two Gigs This Week! Sutton Xmas Lights AND The Kinks!

Sadly, our debut in Guildford Town Centre has had to be cancelled due to a double booking - but we'll make it over there in early next year without doubt :)

That said, we've STILL got a couple of fantastic gigs coming up in this week alone.

First up is the turning-on of Sutton High Street's xmas lights. We are getting involved from 6pm - the lights will be turned on at 7pm and we will sing some songs straight after. Hopefully we're get Father Christmas to dep on rhythm guitar for us!!!

Second up is a treat for our fans in Medway. We don't get to play too many gigs as far east as Gillingham these days (what this space for that to change next year), but this coming Friday we are supporting The Karbon Kinks, a top King tribute act in one of the top live venues in Kent, The Beacon Court Tavern. Tickets are just a fiver so this really isn't one to miss out on. We're on stage at 8pm, with the Karbons on a little after 9pm.

Gig Review - Sutton Town Centre - 16 November

Last weekend Showcase ‘show’ in Sutton Town Centre was a little bit out of the ordinary, due to the fact that we were reduced to ducking in and out of cover to hide from the rain that came down all afternoon. In the end I think we manged to get about 60 mins playing done and a special thanks should go out to everyone that stopped by in the drizzle as we played.

Despite the fear of electrocution I thought we put on a really good set and had a great time. What’s more we’ve learnt that Simon’s cymbals don’t sound very good when dripping with water!!!

The Fore : New Album 'Run and Hide'

PRESS RELEASE

London band The Fore have recorded their second album ‘Run and Hide’ which is due for release on December 5. The band, who signed to TV and Music supplier NOMA Music in July, recorded the album at Ranscombe Studios in Rochester Kent.

Spencer Hannabuss, bass player in the Fore said

"We are really pleased with our latest release. Our debut album Black & White was always going to be a tough act to follow, but we're extremely confident that Run & Hide achieves just that. Rather than simply trying to replicate Black & White we wanted to expand on it, whilst at the same time we tried to stay faithful to the style and sound that has now become our trademark.”

The Fore's debut album 'Black and White' sold over 5,000+ copies in ten months, making it one of the fastest selling ‘indie unsigned’ albums of 2008. Currently number four on the UK unsigned chart show, 2009 looks like it will be The year for the London band.

Run and Hide is available on Beatnik Geek Records.

Gig Review - London / SE Showcase Tour - Bromley

Another great gig at Bromley. We've been really lucky with the weather in the past, but I can't remember a time when we have been THAT close to cancelling due to bad weather. Literally, 5 mins after we finished for the afternoon, as we were packing up, the rain came down! Luckily we had all the gear under cover by then, but it could've been a different story.

Of course the gig fell on Rememberance Sunday and so we didn't start at our usual 12 noon time, to allow the Salvation Army troop down the High Street. I had one of my military coats on that day and got the urge to follow them down the high street myself! The start was also delayed by a couple of minus by rain in the air, but we eventually got off and played a full day, playing three sets in the process. Highlight for me was You've Got To Choose, which featured an excellent guitar break from Matt. it wasn't the warmest of days either, so we're gonna have to get used to playing in coats and gloves again me thinks!

On to Surrey next, with Sutton and Guildford waiting...

If you didn't read my previous run-down on each of the songs on our website's forum, here it is again :)

1. Forgive And Forget
2. We Were Meant To Be
3. Have Me Back Again
4. Send My Love To You
5. You've Got To Choose
6. Run And Hide
7. Rumours And Lies
8. That's A Lie
9. It's You Girl
10. Lazy Day
11. Leave Me Alone
12. No Other Love
13. Tell Your Friend
14. Emma
15. Ain't That Just Fine

1. Forgive And Forget
The opener, sung by me. I get to play the piano on Forgive & Forget and it can be heard in the background. It sets the scene for what to expect for the rest of the album.

2. We Were Meant To Be
We've been playing this one at our gigs for sometime now and it's great to finally get it down on CD.

3. Have Me Back Again
Matt and I are one lead vocals. I wrote this one when I was 20 so it's nice to eventually get it recorded. We're really pleased with the results.

4. Send My Love To You
Simon sings this one. It's one of my favourites and Matt's 12 string really drivs the song on.

5. You've Got To Choose
To me, this will always be Man Of Few Words Part II!! Got the same feel as MOFW, although this time the song is sung by Matt.

6. Run And Hide
Title track of the album. No particular reason for this, except it seemed to make a good album title. We're all really pleased with this song - Matt plays some great guitar and Simon is going nuts on the instrumental break!

7. Rumours And Lies
A slower number, sung by me. This one was done pretty much is one take, which wasn't bad!

8. That's A Lie
One of the songs on 'Run & Hide' that we have been playing in our sets for some time. For the recording we substituted the second electric guitar for an acoustic guitar. Check out the "weeeelllll" at the start - it took us ages to get it right!!!

9. It's You Girl
One of the Fore's management team's favourite songs, but not one that we usually play live. This is the oldest song on the album - think I wrote this one when I was just 14.

10. Lazy Day
One of the features of Run And Hide is the use of piano. Although we're releasing the album in the winter 'Lazy Day' has a summer feel to it. Definitely different from our usual sound and one that we're really pleased with.

11. Leave Me Alone
A real punchy song, which we often play in our live sets. Ends with a great harmony which sets the scene for...

12. No Other Love
One of Matt's favourite songs. Matt and I duet and Matt gets out the 12 string guitar again from the Black And White sessions.

13. Tell Your Friend
Another Matt solo song and another song done in one take. Good job too - Si wouldn't have been happy doing too many takes on this one! Features some mean handclaps on it, which we all did.

14. Emma
Quite a haunting song, especially when the backing vocals come in at the end of the song. I tickle the ivories again.

15. Ain't That Just Fine
Last song on the album. Simon really likes this one and it seems a fitting way to end the album.
